External Opportunities for Women in the Field of Mathematics

Wolverine Pathways:
This is a program for high school students in Southfield and Ypsilanti. They will meet for eight Saturdays starting on
October 1st, and they’re looking for undergrads to come and help out with their version of Math Circle - where an instructor gives a lecture or teaches a lesson in math, and we help students with group work. Please contact Stephen DeBacker (smdbackr@umich.edu) for more information or visit their website at wolverinepathways.umich.edu.

Tutoring:
A few years ago, our former President Heather Price was student teaching at Pioneer High School, and she reached out to WIM for anyone interested in tutoring any of the students. If anyone is interested, please contact the board (women.in.math.board@umich.edu) with your name, contact info, year and major, any relevant experience, and some idea of hourly rate.

Resume Book:
Starting this semester, WIM will maintain a club resume book to send to recruiters, who contact us because they are interested in hiring Michigan math majors and WIM members in particular! Whether you’re interested in internships or a career, this is a great way to get your foot in the door with companies even
before recruiters come to campus. If you are interested in having your resume included, please send it as a pdf to Tali Khain (talikh@umich.edu), who will update the book periodically.

Conferences:
This is a list we are compiling of conferences targeted specifically to women in math and related fields. New ones will be added as we hear about them! Please feel free to share any you know of that here by emailing the board. We really encourage our members to attend at least one conference! Several WIM members have attended them in the past, and found them to be encouraging and insightful experiences.
